It may be the case that a customer needs material that must meet other conditions for a specific use, and that the material thus needs to meet further requirements in terms of mechanical and/or chemical properties. In that case, De Boer Staal can arrange for the steel to undergo supplementary testing in specialised laboratories.
Supplementary testing performed on a regular basis includes ultrasonic testing and the Z test. Ultrasonic testing is used to inspect the material. This form of testing involves the propagation of ultrasonic waves to trace surface damage that is not immediately visible (such as cracks and contamination). The Z test is a form of tensile testing on the thickness of the steel.
