NEN 10204 / G0304 restamping

De Boer Staal has large quantities of steel in stock. For the most part, this steel has at least inspection certificate 3.1 or even a 3.2 certificate, which is mandatory in the shipbuilding industry. The certificate bears the batch and plate number, material grade, material standard, mechanical properties and the chemical composition. This means that both production and certification of the steel have been conducted under the supervision of an independent official inspection authority, such as:

  • Lloyd’s Register (LR)
  • Det Norske Veritas (DNV)
  • Bureau Veritas (BV)
  • Registro Italiano Navale (RINA)
  • American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
  • Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS)

Supervising the certification process

It may be the case that material with a 3.2 inspection certificate signed and stamped by Lloyd's Register (LR) has to be re-certified to a 3.2 inspection certificate signed and stamped by, for instance, Det Norske Veritas (DNV). De Boer Staal has good contacts with the various inspection authorities and is in an excellent position to supervise this certification process.

It may also be important for a customer to know the type of steel from which the products have been cut. In that case it is important that the material is cut from certified material with a 3.1 or 3.2 inspection certificate.

Remarking

De Boer Snijbedrijf is authorised by Lloyds Register to remark materials with a 3.1 inspection report (formerly 3.1b) or 3.2 inspection certificate (formerly 3.1c) in accordance with EN 10204. This means that De Boer Snijbedrijf can easily arrange re-stamping for its customers. This has logistical benefits. As the customer no longer has to wait for the surveyor, the process runs more smoothly. Moreover, the plates no longer need to be stamped before cutting; rather, products cut to size can be stamped. This means that quality is guaranteed and the plate from which the product was cut and the properties and conditions it meets can always be traced.
