February 2017 - This month, the Sigma 10514 PKR frigate was handed over to the Indonesian Ministry of Defense. For the construction of this naval vessel, De Boer Staal supplied a large amount of sheet steel and profiles in Grade A and AH 36 and in-house coated with a grey coating.
The frigate was built by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in Vlissingen in cooperation with their Indonesian partner PT PAL Shipyard in Surabaya. The frigate has been built to a modular construction system: four modules were built in Indonesia and two more complex modules including the engine room, bridge and command center were built in Vlissingen. All modules were assembled at PT PAL Shipyard. The ship which is 105 metres long and 14 metres wide, will be involved in coastguard and maritime security operations in the territorial and international waters near Indonesia.
For the construction of the Damen Sigma 10514 PKR frigate, De Boer Staal supplied a complete shipbuilding kit consisting of Grade A and AH36 sheet steel and profiles, which were blasted and coated with Interplate 937 grey. The material was shipped from the port of Rotterdam to Indonesia, with the wooden packaging material being required to comply with the strict ISPM15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures) global standard.
